Highbury
Once the home of football to countless Arsenal fans, the N5 district has in recent years become increasingly popular as home to a large contingent of young professionals and families attracted by the excellent transport links, friendly atmosphere and beautiful outdoor spaces.
Generally developed later than southern Islington, Highbury’s period architecture ranges from the beautiful Georgian terraces of Highbury Fields to the grand Victorian villas of Highbury New Park and the later Victorian and Edwardian red brick houses and mansion blocks around the Fields and further North.
The area also offers a particularly fine array of specialist food shops and cafes and for many of its diverse population N5 is not just where they live, but very much home- a fact that contributes to its noticeably laid back feel and welcoming atmosphere.
At the area’s heart remains Highbury Fields – the largest outdoor space in Islington. Amenities include tennis courts, football pitches, gymnasium, pool, playground and an atmosphere on a sunny day to beat any of London’s better-known parks.
Highbury is bordered by the area of Finsbury Park to the North, Holloway to the West, Stoke Newington to the East and central Islington to the South.
There are a number of train and tube stations in the N5 district including Arsenal tube to the North (Piccadilly Line ) , Canonbury train station to the East (set to be part of the East London Extension line) and the extremely well connected Highbury and Islington station at Highbury Corner which houses three separate lines including the Victoria tube line with trains to the West End, the Hertfordshire line currently run by FCC with direct trains to the City at Moorgate and also the overground line that runs across the width of London from Stratford to Richmond.
The main streets and buildings include Highbury Grove, Highbury New Park, Highbury Hill, Blackstock Road, Grosvenor Avenue, Petherton Road, Highbury Barn, Highbury Arsenal Stadium. Nearby areas include Finsbury Park, Holloway, Canonbury, Newington Green, Stoke Newington, Barnsbury.
Highbury houses for sale are generally cheaper than the houses or flats for sale in neighbouring Canonbury and Barnsbury, yet offer the same great variety. N5 Highbury houses for sale include beautiful Victorian and Georgian townhouses, which range in size from large family houses overlooking Highbury Fields to grand mansion blocks and smaller terrace flats for sale surrounding the football ground.
The large houses for sale in N5 and lovely town centre make Highbury a brilliant location for families to buy property, especially those looking for more space. Yet there are plenty of options of property to buy in Highbury more suited for couples and singles, including a variety of character-rich post-WWII municipal housing. The housing built as part of the new football stadium development also offers brilliant choices for more affordable property to buy in Highbury.

These flats for rent are found along many of Highbury’s very wide, safe streets.
Highbury has a range of Italianate villas to rent and buy which, along with the stadium, offer Highbury’s most distinctive residential architecture. These are also Highbury’s most grand and lovely homes to rent and buy. The stadium itself, once the home of Arsenal and now a residential development, is just part of a new stage in Highbury's regeneration, making now an ideal time to rent property in Highbury N5.
