Clerkenwell is located in the London Borough of Islington, south of Finsbury, northwest of the City, northeast of Holborn and east of Bloomsbury. Bordered by Farringdon Road to the west (home to the Guardian and nearby Observer) and Smithfield meat market to the south, the neighbourhood follows Clerkenwell Road east as it turns into Old Street.
Farringdon station is the key station in Clerkenwell which is soon to become the central hub for Cross Rail. Angel, Barbican, King’s Cross St Pancras and Chancery Lane are all very close to Clerkenwell. The main streets and buildings include High Holborn, Chancery Lane, Gray’s Inn Road, Hatton Garden, Theobald’s Road, St. Bartholomew the Great church, Marx Memorial Library, London Metropolitan Archives, the London Masonic Centre, The Order of St John, The Eagle pub, Fabric nightclub, Smithfield market, Leather Lane market (great traditional market for clothing, accessory brands and food). Nearby areas include Bloomsbury, St Pancras, Holborn, King’s Cross, Smithfield and Finsbury.
