Over 12,500 people took part in the first ever Run Hackney event on the 22nd of June 2014, including Rebecca Scurlock and Amy Currell who ran on behalf of Hackney based charity Dalston Bridge.

In tough conditions both Amy and Rebecca completed the 13.1 mile race in 2 hours and 10 minutes, raising £893.50 for Dalston Bridge in the process.

Amy Currell said: “The highlight was getting to run past some of hackney’s coolest buildings, running down our own street and past the Hackney Empire. The only downside was the heat!”

The route began and finished in the Hackney marshes and explored the whole of the borough, passing through Hackney Central, Broadway Market and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Mayor of Hackney, Jules Pipe, said: “This is another milestone for the borough that puts Hackney on the map – not only in London – but internationally.”

The event was heralded as a great success, not only showcasing the delights of Hackney but raising thousands of pounds for local charities.
